Our History

A team of adults residing in the greater Midrand area, has come together to establish a spiritual home. After intense deliberation and research, the team has chosen the ELCSA Ministry as the preferred home of worship. The team further engaged the ELCSA constitution to gain comfort that key principles around worship and spirituality, governance, and continuous relevance will be fulfilled. The following Christians are honoured for their courage and diligence in their initial establishment of ELCSA Midrand.

Namely:

Rev. Richard Munzhelele
Mr. Jackie Ngakane
Rev. Benny Mabeba
Ms. Matlhogonolo Seabo
Mr. Kgabo Badimo
Ms Johannah Bopape
Mr. Maredi Thema
Ms. Tsholofelo Mokoma
Ms. Lebo Munzhelele
Dr. Denga Nevhutalu
Mr. Lufuno Nevhutalu
Mr Thapelo Mokoma
Mr Sebushane Mokgabudi

Pastor Richard Munzhelele was to become our first pastor to assist us through the transition period as a Mission Congregation. He was assisted by Rev Dr Olehile Buffel. Seven members were elected from the above Christians as the interim Council to face the daunting task of setting up the required pillars to be able to hold Church Services continuously.

The first interim Council of Midrand in 2010 was as follows:

Chairperson: Johannah Bopape
Deputy Chairperson: Lufuno Nevhutalu
Secretary: Jackie Ngakane
Assistant Secretary: Tsholofelo Mokoma
Treasurer: Sebushane Mokgabudi
Additional Members: Kgabo Badimo, Thapelo Mokoma
Ex-Officio Members: Rev R Munzhelele, Rev Dr O Buffel

The first service of ELCSA Midrand was held on the 9th of December 2010. This very important service was led by Dean Lesejane, Dean of Western Circuit. The existence of ELCSA Midrand was thus endorsed.

We acknowledge the contribution of all the Congregants and the Western Circuit office to convert what was once just a possibility into reality. May the loving Lord always be with you, your families, and with the Church.
